The Family Crest was provided the unique promotional opportunity to perform in front of industry tastemakers and music's biggest names as part of the Magnified Artists program by Google Music. This new program shines light on talented musicians using the Google Music artist hub to distribute their original songs and connect with fans, as The Family Crest has.
T-Mobile is the presenting sponsor of the Magnified Artists performances that Google Music has curated. Through their Android-powered devices, T-Mobile customers have access to live exclusive tracks from past and future Magnified Artists and will be able to download free tracks of the performances from Android Market.
In partnership with Red Light Management, T-Mobile and Google will be providing unsigned artists with even more promotional opportunities to perform at some of music's biggest events. Red Light Management will also be considering Google Music's Magnified Artists for management representation in 2012, to help them further accelerate their careers.
More than 500 music revelers and special guests turned out for the invite-only, star-studded event, including Grammy-award winner Corinne Bailey Rae, Herbie Hancock, Rumer Willis, Mark Salling, Punch Brothers, Don Felder, Tony Hawk, Haley Reinhart, My Morning Jacket and The Decemberists. The night also featured a special performance by multi-platinum alternative rockers Switchfoot, who entertained the crowd with their catalog of hits, including songs from their Grammy Award-winning album "Hello Hurricane."
Fans at home were able to follow the celebration through real-time social media engagement updates via the hashtag #GoogleMusic on Twitter® and Google+, as well as T-Mobile's Facebook page.
The Family Crest began as a collaborative recording project in 2008 with a vision to change the way music is made. Gathering friends, fans, musicians, and non-musicians alike, the group began to record an album in bars, churches, streets, and other unconventional locations. Their collaborative approach to music making quickly grew steam, evolving by February 2010 into a fully-formed orchestral indie rock band with over two hundred and fifty 'Extended Family Members' participating in recordings, live performances, and media projects. The Family Crest released their debut EP, "Songs from the Valley Below," in February of 2010. Their first LP, "The Village," is now available exclusively through Android Market and will be released nationally later this month.
At the Sundance Film Festival in January, T-Mobile supported the first batch of Magnified Artists, hosting eight unsigned artists to play over the course of four evenings. T-Mobile and Google Music will continue to highlight independent musicians throughout the year at a variety of national music award shows and festivals.
