Syrup-maker Monin gets sweeter ERP performance thanks to CDNetworks
"Within just a few hours we could switch our URL addresses to those provided by CDNetworks. We immediately saw that our system performance was light years better than it had ever been." - Lionel Govignon, Head of IT Systems, Monin
SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
French food company Monin turns to CDNetworks to boost the performance of its JD Edwards ERP software, especially in Asia
Monin, a French family business founded in 1912, makes premium syrups for bars and restaurants. It is also one of the world's leading producers of fruit purees, Liqueurs, and sauces. The company does all its production in-house, with operations in France, the US, and Malaysia.

Three years ago, Monin decided to switch from its proprietary ERP software to a professional web-based application that could better support the company's growth strategy. It selected Oracle's JD Edwards fully web-based software, initially installing it in France and later rolling it out to Malaysia.
Sluggish response times
The company performed user tests and other analyses on the software, which quickly revealed major performance problems. Response times in Malaysia were over 350 ms—compared with just 10–15 ms in France where the application was hosted. Those long response times made the ERP completely unusable by Malaysian staff.
"The first round of testing went very badly. Response times were so long that employees couldn't even access the ERP interface," said Lionel Govignon, Head of IT Systems at Monin. "We needed to find a way to boost our system's performance significantly just so the software could run."
Moreover, the ERP is a business-critical application for Monin. It manages all of the company's core business processes: production, quality control, sales, purchasing, accounting, and other corporate functions. Without a well-running ERP, the company would not be able to operate smoothly or efficiently. Even the slightest glitch could throw the business off track—with serious and potentially costly consequences.
Faster web performance does the trick
Monin first considered a "point-to-point" hardware solution that would make its system run faster, but soon changed course after realizing how difficult it would be to install. That's when the company decided to give CDNetworks' Dynamic Web Acceleration solution a try.
"The first supplier we contacted suggested that we install and configure hardware on site, which would have been complicated in terms of logistics and system maintenance and upgrades. That's why we were drawn to the 'virtual' solution proposed by CDNetworks. We decided to test their solution out and measure its real-time performance," said Lionel.
The good news for Monin was that CDNetworks offered to let them pre-test the solution under actual operating conditions by simply redirecting a few IP and URL addresses.
"Within just a few hours we could switch our URL addresses to those provided by CDNetworks. We immediately saw that our system performance was light years better than it had ever been," said Lionel. "Now, even though our Malaysian employees are some 12,000 km away from the host server in France, they get nearly the same response times as their French colleagues."
CDNetworks' Dynamic Web Acceleration was installed in January 2014, and has since slashed the average response time from 350–370 ms to 10–12 ms. And that's without changing Monin's existing IT infrastructure or setting up any remote hardware. It was all done simply by redirecting addresses to CDNetworks' servers located around the world.
Next up for Monin is a new production site in China in 2015. Thanks to CDNetworks' solution, Lionel is confident that this second Asian site will also have a reliable, efficient, and fast ERP.
"All 120 of our ERP users—including the over 25% in Asia—now enjoy the same fast performance. I don't think they even realize what an achievement that is from an IT perspective. But then again, that's the idea—that we offer seamless delivery without users even being aware of what's going on behind the scenes. And with CDNetworks' technology, I can safely say it's mission accomplished!" said Lionel.
