Synaptics Fingerprint Solution for Desktop PC Mouse Demonstrated By Leading Customers at Computex
LiteON, Thermaltake, SolidYear, EVGA Showcase Secure Biometric Authentication
SAN JOSE, Calif., June 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Synaptics Inc. (NASDAQ: SYNA), the leading developer of human interface solutions, today announced its Natural ID™ biometric solution for desktop PC mouse is being widely showcased at Computex 2015. This unique and secure authentication solution for mice and keyboards enables OEMs and ODMs to deliver new and differentiated products in a highly competitive desktop PC market. Key peripheral makers, including LiteON, Thermaltake, SolidYear and EVGA are demonstrating this solution at Computex.
Extending the company's market leading fingerprint sensing technology for smartphones into desktop PC peripherals, the Synaptics Natural ID small area touch sensor solution adds swift logon and secure transaction capability at the touch of a finger.
"There is tremendous opportunity for PC peripherals to integrate biometric authentication as evidenced by our traction with key partners," said Godfrey Cheng, vice president of marketing, Human Interface Systems Division (HISD), Synaptics. "Secure logon and transactions via fingerprint on mouse or keyboard is fast, simple, foolproof and significantly safer than passwords."
Ecosystem Driving Demand:
Synaptics is meeting an emerging desktop PC ecosystem demand for easy and secure authentication driven by factors such as the security requirements defined by Windows 10 biometric integration and FIDO (Fast IDentity Online)-compliance. Fingerprint authentication enabled peripherals, such as mouse and keyboards and the upcoming Windows Hello platform will let users unlock Windows 10 devices. Microsoft Passport technology will take it a step further by enabling smooth access to apps and online services such as secure payment transactions. With a strong and growing ecosystem of members, the FIDO Alliance addresses the lack of interoperability among strong authentication devices, as well as the problems users face with creating and remembering multiple usernames and passwords.
ODM Quotes:
"As a leading ODM within the crowded PC industry, it's important for us to have the ability to design solutions that allow our customers to bring differentiated products to market," said Jerry Lee, head of EE, Human Input Solution Business Unit for Lite-On. "For gamers, speed and usability are critical factors for gaining an edge over the competition," said Johnny Hsu, marketing director for Tt eSPORTS, the gaming accessory division of Thermaltake. "Synaptics understands that user experience must always come first and we're excited to partner with them to bring our customers the best gaming experience possible."
"The PC industry continues to be a sizable market globally, so it's great to be working with a company like Synaptics that is delivering solutions to address unmet needs of our consumers," said Edward Wu, general manager, Solidyear.
"EVGA is excited to be adding more features to its popular TORQ gaming mouse lineup. The Synaptics Natural ID module sensor allows easy system login so you can securely lock your PC when you are away, and log back onto your system and into gaming quickly and easily," said Joe Darwin, chief branding officer at EVGA.
