Symlabs Increases Virtual Directory Security and Power

CHICAGO, Feb. 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Symlabs, a global leader in identity management, has just released the latest update to their industry performance-leading virtual directory products. Version 6.0 of Symlabs Virtual Directory Server and Symlabs LDAP Proxy add a host of features that increase flexibility and functionality, particularly for Active Directory environments, plus once again raise the bar on performance. Kerberos authentication is the guardian of Active Directory installations, and the new Kerberos Service-For-User (S4U) extensions in Symlabs Virtual Directory Server enable that security umbrella to fully embrace all connected applications. Both products benefit from increased speed for Windows input-output operations and plug-ins for extended support of pagination, dynamic groups, and Active Directory schemas.

The addition of Kerberos S4U support is significant because lets Symlabs Virtual Directory Server create  tighter, more seamless authentication directly between an application and the Active Directory it needs to access, with no need for adaptation on the part of the application itself. This enables a thorough security policy that embraces all applications in the infrastructure, even if they have limited capabilities on their own.  The Windows engine for both products has now been integrated with the native I/O completion ports functionality. This, plus several other new changes, combine to drive performance even further ahead of the competition - particularly when compared to Java-based alternatives in Windows environments. In addition, flexibility has been enhanced with the addition of a new model for functionality extensions based on downloadable Java modules, new  built-in plug-ins, and improvements to the graphical user interface that make it easier to use than ever before.
