SWAPA President Issues Statement on Foxx Nomination
DALLAS, April 30, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Captain Mark Richardson, President of the Southwest Airlines Pilots' Association, released the following statement following the nomination of Anthony Foxx to lead the Department of Transportation:
"On behalf of the pilots of Southwest Airlines, I want to congratulate Mayor Anthony Foxx on his nomination to serve as the next Transportation Secretary.
"As Mayor, Mr. Foxx quickly grasped the importance that transportation had to the economic wellbeing of the city he led. If confirmed, we look forward to working with him to implement the comprehensive airline industry growth and safety plan that SWAPA recently endorsed.
"Undoubtedly, Mr. Foxx will lead the Department during a very challenging time. Yet we feel that modernizing our air traffic control system while promoting an environment for sustainable growth within the industry are both attainable goals.
"Mr. Foxx's personal story suggests he will not only display resilience in the face of these challenges, but will be willing to work with labor and business to help improve what is already the world's safest aviation system."
