Svitzer Canada Limited and the Canadian Merchant Service Guild reach a collective agreement - Minister Leitch congratulates both parties

OTTAWA, May 11, 2015 /CNW/ - Today, the Honourable Dr. K. Kellie Leitch, Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women, congratulated Svitzer Canada Limited and the Canadian Merchant Service Guild on the renewal of their collective agreement.

The agreement was reached with assistance from the Labour Program's Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS). The FMCS provides dispute resolution and dispute prevention assistance to trade unions and employers under the jurisdiction of the Canada Labour Code.

• Svitzer Canada Limited owns and operates a large fleet of modern tugs and provides harbour, coastal and deep sea towing.
• The collective agreement covering 16 employees expired on December 31, 2013.
