Sutter County Expected to Save Nearly $30 Million with Chevron Energy Solutions Solar Project
YUBA CITY, Calif., March 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Sutter County Board of Supervisors approved a Chevron Energy Solutions project that is expected to save the county almost $30 million in energy and water costs over its life, or over $18 million after paying all expenses.
"This project will save the county a considerable amount of energy and water," said Board of Supervisors Chairman Stan Cleveland, "but more, it will save us money, now and into the future. It will also provide us the financial resources to make much-needed investments in technology, equipment and infrastructure that will help us deliver services more effectively and more efficiently."
The project, which includes solar generation facilities at several sites, lighting and energy efficiency improvements and water conservation installations, is expected to reduce the county's annual energy costs by 75% and eliminate almost 3 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions annually, or the equivalent of taking approximately 475 cars off the road.
"We are proud to work with the leaders of Sutter County who've shown forward-looking vision in meeting the needs of their community," said John Mahoney, Senior Vice President of Chevron Energy Solutions.
Construction is scheduled to commence in March and be completed within a year.
