DALLAS, Feb. 20, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Sutherland Furniture, the preeminent provider of luxury outdoor furniture, has announced new collections for Spring 2019. Sutherland is thrilled to expand upon past designer collections and introduce a key new partnership for the brand. Growing international awareness, Sutherland has launched two collections with Belgian product designer Jean-Pierre Geelen. Alongside Geelen and collaborators like Philippe Hurel and Christophe Delcourt, the brand is proud to introduce new materials and aesthetics that complement heritage designs and performance craftsmanship.
The Sutherland legacy of partnering with top international designers remains strong for 2019. The brand taps Belgian product designer Jean-Pierre Geelen to push the boundaries of innovation this season. Geelen is known for both industrial and consumer products across categories like public transportation, luggage, and furniture. Due to extensive experience with leading-edge materials and product technologies, Geelen offers a new technological approach for the brand: the use of carbon fiber in the Neo-Contour Chaise. The chaise's fluid design and sleek carbon fiber frame result in a modern style that is also remarkably comfortable due to the performance mesh body. The chaise is anchored by equally streamlined stainless steel legs that feature beautiful angles. The black frame is available in a polished finish.
"Combining different materials in one product has always been a challenge, but worthwhile given the outstanding results," says Jean-Pierre Geelen. "A meticulous attention to detail and a desire to improve is of upmost importance during the design and product development process."
In addition to his high-tech designs, Jean-Pierre teamed up with his business partner Axel Enthoven to design a teak dining chair, aptly named the Neo-Classic Dining Arm Chair. Geelen expanded upon this design to create the Neo-Classic Collection, which includes the Dining Arm Chair, Lounge Chair, and Folding Chair. The Neo-Classic Dining Arm Chair and Neo-Classic Lounge Chair incorporate Sutherland's meticulous joinery and premier quality teak, while maintaining the designer's refined, yet warm, sensibility. The Neo-Classic Folding Chair is the first of its kind for the brand. Combining the curved teak frame of the Dining Chair and the option of seat material, the Neo-Classic Folding Chair is ideal for outdoor entertaining with its easy mobility and storage. The seat and back may be customized according to designer preference, with either Perennials Luxury Performance Fabrics or Sutherland Leather, a performance leather that can withstand the elements. The leather is available in four colorways: Fog, Smoke, Carbon, and Denim.
French designer Christophe Delcourt has expanded upon his 2018 collection by offering two new seating options. The Spin Bench and Spin Lounge Chair maintain his timeless aesthetic of highlighting craftsmanship and contemporary elegance. The teak pieces feature remarkable curvature and joinery, and look exquisite with or without cushions.
After many years working with French craftsman Philippe Hurel, Sutherland is adding to the Hurel collection with two new seating options and a new Zigi. The Zephyr Stacking Arm Chair and Zephyr Stacking Side Chair embody Hurel's sleek design sense while retaining Sutherland's durability with strong aluminum frames. The two chairs easily stack, offering convenient reserve seating options for both residential and contract projects. Hurel's Zigi is a renowned table style for the brand, available in both teak and various powder coat colors. Sutherland is thrilled to announce the newest Zigi design – Carrara marble. The Marble Zigi is hand-carved and features exquisite blue-grey veining.
Sutherland introduced the Sag Harbor Lounge Chair, a polyethylene-resin woven style, in 2018 to much critical acclaim. The brand has expanded the award-winning style to include the Sag Harbor Dining Chair, as requested by many designers and clients. The Sag Harbor Dining Chair is also influenced by the original Francis Mair design; however, the proportions of the aluminum frame have been modified to fit tighter dining settings. The lightweight material and slender form transform luxury outdoor entertaining with ease.
Retro aesthetic and mixed materials are at the forefront of the Ellen Collection. The Ellen Dining Arm Chair and Ellen Lounge Chair are comprised of woven polyethylene rope and slender stainless steel frames with teak accents. The woven seat and back feature Sutherland's performance properties, yet maintain a malleable seat for long lasting comfort.
A product of Sutherland Furniture's growth in the hospitality market, the Banquet Chair was created with heavy use in mind. The stainless steel frame allows for mobility across spaces, while the interesting angles add an industrial design spin. Should a developer or designer require a specific look, the chair may be customized according to seat material—teak or powder coat aluminum—and powder coat frame color.
David Sutherland looks forward to the future of outdoor furniture design. "As a leader in the industry, we consistently develop products with technological and material advancements in mind. We are proud to be a heritage company with designs that last a lifetime, yet we believe it is pivotal to work with designers like Jean-Pierre who are experts on new processes and cutting-edge technology. We are also placing a large focus on the hospitality sector this year and expanding offerings that complement high traffic spaces."
