Susman Godfrey announces the recipients of its 2012 1L Women and Minority Trial Lawyer Fellowships
HOUSTON, May 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Susman Godfrey is pleased to announce the five recipients of its 2012 1L Women and Minority Trial Lawyer Fellowships. Each fellow will spend two weeks at one of Susman Godfrey's offices across the country and receive a stipend. Susman Godfrey selected these fellows based on their academic records, experiences, and interest in the role of diversity in the legal profession.
Dallas, Texas – Sara Haji
Sara Haji attends Boalt Hall at the University of California at Berkeley. She graduated from the University of Texas with numerous distinctions and honors. Ms. Haji has worked as a journalist for independent media outlets and been an active participant in outreach programs, public-interest groups, and journalism-related jobs.
Los Angeles, California – Rebecca Maurer
Rebecca Maurer attends Stanford Law School, where she serves as an associate editor on the Stanford Law and Policy Journal and is a member of the Women of Stanford Law. Ms. Maurer received her B.A. with honors from the University of Chicago in Comparative Race and Ethnic Studies. She previously worked as a researcher for The Social Justice Coalition in Cape Town, South Africa.
Seattle, Washington – Laura Powell
Laura Powell attends the University of Washington Law School, where she garnered a quarter-finalist position in the 1L moot court competition and volunteers at Street Youth Legal Advocates of Washington. Ms. Powell received her B.A. in Politics with honors from Whitman College, along with a Spanish minor. Ms. Powell also studied abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Houston, Texas – Michelle Roberts
Michelle Roberts attends The University of Texas School of Law. Before law school, Ms. Roberts founded Vantage Point Test Prep where she increased students' test scores by more than eight times the national average. Ms. Roberts is a graduate of the University of North Carolina, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
New York, New York – Xiyun Yang
Xiyun Yang attends Columbia Law School. Before law school, Ms. Yang worked as a journalist for the New York Times in China. She is a graduate of Brown University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Literature and International Relations.
