HOUSTON, Feb. 16, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Susan Distefano, RN, MSN, Senior Vice President and CEO of Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital, has been elected to the 2016 Board of Trustees of the Children's Hospital Association (CHA) – a prestigious national organization that serves as the voice of more than 200 children's hospitals, charged with advancing child health through innovation in the quality, cost and delivery of care.
Distefano's leadership experience at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital, in collaboration with children's hospitals across the nation, makes her an ideal candidate to serve on the CHA Board at a time when children's hospitals are working together more than ever before to improve the health care delivery system and advance quality measures for children.
"Serving on CHA's Board of Trustees is a great honor and amazing opportunity," said Distefano. "I look forward to joining my esteemed fellow board members in working toward solutions to the challenges all children's hospitals face in providing the highest quality and safest care possible."
Distefano has served as the CEO of Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital since 2011. In this role, she oversees operations for the 308-bed hospital and women's services, and is responsible for setting the strategic direction to ensure growth, quality and operational excellence, as well as patient, employee and physician satisfaction. Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital has been serving the community for almost 30 years and is the primary teaching hospital for the pediatrics and obstetrics/gynecology programs at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth, focusing on the specialized needs of women and children with an emphasis on quality, patient experience and leading-edge research.
"I welcome Susie Distefano to our board as a national leader in children's health care," said Steve Allen, M.D., incoming chair, CHA Board of Trustees and CEO of Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. "Her perspectives and contributions will be an asset to our team as we continue our work collaboratively as an industry to improve care, enhance the patient and family experience, and lower the cost of care for pediatric patients across the country."
