HENDERSON, Nev., July 8, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Tuesday, July 9th, a survivor of the 2012 Aurora theater shooting and Nevada gun owners will gather in Henderson as part of the "No More Names: National Drive to Reduce Gun Violence" – a 25-state national bus tour over a period of 100 days aimed at urging America's leaders to support common-sense gun policies. Participants will come together Tuesday to voice their support for comprehensive and enforceable background checks, and they will urge U.S. Congressman Joe Heck to join more than 180 of his fellow lawmakers in co-sponsoring bipartisan background checks legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives.
In February, Heck told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that he supports the principle of background checks, but has refused direct comment on how he'd vote on Manchin-Toomey background check bill. Despite his purported support, Heck has thus far not co-sponsored corresponding a bipartisan House bill introduced by Congressmen Peter King (R-NY) and Mike Thompson (D-CA) that would extend these life-saving checks to cover commercial gun sales.
Participants will urge Heck on Tuesday to make plain once and for all his position on Manchin-Toomey and get behind the House version of the bill, which would help keep guns out of the hands of felons, domestic abusers, the seriously mentally ill, and other dangerous people.
Every day, 33 Americans are murdered with guns in this country. "No More Names: National Drive to Reduce Gun Violence" is part of Mayors Against Illegal Guns' ongoing, national effort to continue raising awareness to the issue of gun violence in America – and most importantly, to urge elected officials to act on behalf of the people they represent.

We have more than 1.5 million grassroots supporters, making us the largest gun violence prevention advocacy organization in the country.
