Survey Shows Majority of Americans Still Experiencing Financial Difficulty
SAN ANTONIO, Sept. 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The number of employees living paycheck to paycheck has increased from last year, according to the 2015 "Getting Paid In America" survey recently conducted by the American Payroll Association.
"This year's survey results show that America's workers continue to struggle to provide for themselves and their families," said Dan Maddux, executive director of the American Payroll Association. "It's important to educate employees on ways they can increase savings and stretch their paycheck for long-term financial stability."
The annual survey asked respondents how difficult it would be to meet their current financial obligations if their paychecks were delayed for a week. More than 22,300 respondents, 66.6 percent, said they would find it somewhat or very difficult to meet their financial obligations if their paychecks were delayed.
Over the past 10 years, the survey results have reflected American employees' unease following the 2008 financial crisis. The percentage of Americans living paycheck to paycheck increased to 70.56% in 2009 and peaked at 71.64% in 2010.
The American Payroll Association offers free tools to help employees understand their paychecks and make smart financial decisions about their pay. Workers can download a free e-book, "Understanding Your Pay," and a W-4 assistant to help them properly fill out Form W-4 and potentially add hundreds of dollars to their take-home pay.
The "Getting Paid In America" survey coincides with APA's annual public awareness campaign, National Payroll Week (NPW), held annually during the week of Labor Day. Over 34,800 individuals responded to the survey, providing insight into how employees are paid in America. For complete results, visit www.nationalpayrollweek.com.
