Survey Reveals Drinkers Seek More Low-Calorie Alcohol Beverage Options
BOSTON, July 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- With more and more American drinkers seemingly becoming focused on their wellness and active lifestyles, the face of happy hour may also be changing for good as more varieties of alcohol become available. A recent survey commissioned by Truly Spiked & Sparkling and conducted online by Harris Poll revealed that almost half (47%) of Americans age 21+ who drink alcohol say there are not enough low calorie alcohol beverage options on the market. In fact, nearly five in 10 (45%) drinkers agreed that following a wellness routine makes it hard to be social because events often revolve around unhealthy food and drink.
A recent article in Advertising Age points to this summer's biggest alcohol trend as spiked sparkling water, supporting the idea that drinkers' attitude towards alcohol choices and their desire for lower calorie options may have shifted. One new to the beverage scene, Truly Spiked & Sparkling, has caught fire amongst drinkers and has quickly become the most popular spiked water[1] in the United States.
Gluten-free and made with no artificial flavors or sweeteners, a bottle of Truly Spiked & Sparkling is just 100 calories, 1g of sugars, offering many of the attributes health-conscious drinkers look for today. It comes in three delicious styles: Colima Lime, Grapefruit & Pomelo, and Pomegranate.
Casey O'Neill, a member of the Truly Spiked & Sparkling innovation team, comments on this shift in drinkers' attitudes to wanting more refreshing and lower calorie alcoholic drink choices: "I noticed more and more of my friends wanting a light, refreshing alcoholic beverage to enjoy, but cocktails were too complicated, wine was too heavy, and we wanted to avoid feeling bloated from light beer."
She adds, "It was then that I started playing around with recipes for a refreshing, clean and simple spiked sparkling water, eventually landing on what's now Truly Spiked & Sparkling – we knew we were onto something great."
The poll also revealed that nearly eight in 10 (79%) alcohol drinkers are open to trying new types of alcohol, further validating the trend cited in the article that drinkers would like to see more variety in their alcoholic beverage choices.
