Survey Results Reveal Preference for DensDeck® Roof Boards
Product's fire resistance, strength and dimensional stability are advantages in today's demanding roof environment
ATLANTA, Feb. 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- A generation of roofing contractors has profited from the advantages of DensDeck® Roof Boards. Now, results from a recent survey* confirm that DensDeck® Roof Boards are by far the preferred brand of cover board.
By a more than two-to-one margin over the second ranked brand, respondents said the one brand of cover board they prefer to use is DensDeck® Roof Board. In addition, DensDeck was the top choice of brand they would recommend for use over all others listed in the survey.
"The DensDeck brand has nearly 30 years of success as a strong, durable and reliable roof cover board – and our ongoing product enhancements have made it even better," said Todd Kuykendall, director of product management, Georgia-Pacific Gypsum. "Roofing contractors, architects, consultants and building owners trust the DensDeck family of products to provide undeniable performance benefits for a job done right."
Kuykendall added that Georgia-Pacific Gypsum has seen the use of cover boards in single ply roofing systems grow exponentially year over year. Many single ply and other systems utilize a cover board as an underlayment due to the following product attributes:
- Enhanced fire resistance of the roofing system
- Insulation protection
- Enhanced wind uplift of the system
- Added sound resistance
- Protection of the membrane from damage due to hail, footfalls or equipment.
DensDeck® Roof Board products will be displayed at the Georgia-Pacific Gypsum exhibit in Booth 1543 at the 2014 International Roofing Expo®, taking place in Las Vegas, Feb. 26 to 28.
Enhancements Make the Job Easier
In 2013, Georgia-Pacific Gypsum made several enhancements to DensDeck Prime Roof Board, and contractors particularly like its ease of handling, easy scoring and snapping with no special tools required -- resulting in less breakage and waste. Also enhanced fiberglass mats help achieve more uniform application and better bonding with the roofing membrane -- resulting in time and labor savings.

About DensDeck® Roof Boards
With billions of square feet installed over three decades in a complete range of roofing systems and climate extremes, DensDeck Roof Boards have proven their toughness and versatility. DensDeck panels continue to earn industry accolades and strong sales due to their ability to deliver high quality performance.
DensDeck Prime Roof Boards combine the superior features of DensDeck Roof Boards (fire resistance, strength and dimensional stability) with an enhanced surface treatment. The coated surface of DensDeck Prime Roof Boards provides an ideal substrate for a wide variety of adhered roofing systems by allowing a uniform spread of adhesives, which results in a strong, consistent bond. The enhanced boards also demonstrate superior compressive strength to support installation equipment and post-construction foot traffic. Further, the DensDeck Prime panels show greater flexural strength and pull-through resistance than ¼" gypsum fiber boards in fastener system** testing.
Another key feature is demonstrable dimensional stability so no gapping is required; and DensDeck panels are noncombustible, per ASTM E136. They can be used in cold mastic, torch-applied modified bitumen as well as fully-adhered, single-ply systems. DensDeck Prime Roof Boards are resistant to mold growth, and have scored a rating of 10, the highest level of performance for mold resistance under the ASTM D3273 test method.
