Survey: About 1-in-4 Know Obamacare Enrollment Period Ends Today In Most States
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Dec. 15, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- HealthPocket.com® today released the results of a nationwide poll that found only about one in four adults surveyed know that today (December 15th) is the last day to enroll in Affordable Care Act insurance for the 39 states using the Healthcare.gov exchange. The remainder either did not know the end date at all or assumed a date different than today is the end date. If a consumer misses today's enrollment window, he or she will likely be locked out of government marketplace insurance until 2019 and face a potential fine for lacking health coverage compliant with the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). States where open enrollment ends today are as follows: AK, AL, AR, AZ, DE, FL, GA, HI, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MI, MO, MS, MT, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NC, ND, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WI, WV, and WY.
HealthPocket's nationwide survey was conducted this week, over the final days of the Open Enrollment Period, and reflect the current state of consumer awareness on this important issue. This year's enrollment period for Healthcare.gov remains open for only six weeks, down from twelve weeks last year. HealthPocket's survey also found the majority of consumers (58 percent) admitted that they did not know when the enrollment period for Obamacare ended. Another 8 percent thought that enrollment ended on December 31st and another 5 percent thought enrollment ended January 31st of next year.
"Overall public awareness of the Obamacare enrollment window is dangerously low but consumers needing health insurance still have time to act today," stated Bruce Telkamp, CEO and Co-Founder of HealthPocket, Inc. "We encourage the media as well as other key influencers to join HealthPocket in educating those needing insurance that they should go online now, compare their options, and get coverage for 2018 before it's too late. Internet shopping is strongly suggested today since, historically, the final day of open enrollment marks a spark in consumer activity that can overwhelm call centers offering phone support."
