Regional Medical Center at Memphis -- a licensed 631-bed teaching hospital and regional healthcare provider -- recently completed implementation of Siemens perioperative management solution by SIS that will interoperate with Soarian®. The implementation was completed in less than six months due to a new, streamlined implementation methodology from SIS.
"We were impressed by SIS' deep perioperative expertise, solutions offerings, and proven perioperative partnership with our new Soarian EHR from Siemens," said Robert Sumter, Ph.D., Regional Medical Center at Memphis' Chief Operating Officer and Chief Information Officer. "As we looked at all of the payment reform and meaningful use requirements facing our organization going forward, the OR is of critical importance to us, and SIS has proven to be an invaluable team member in successfully implementing a solution that will assist us in our goals to reduce costs and improve quality care."
Today, SIS and Siemens have established the basic foundation for interoperability through standard interfaces to key functions, including ADT, allergies, scheduling, charges, lab results, documentation, notes, reports, analytics, and quality measures (using Soarian Quality Measures). As a result, information flows between systems to reduce duplicate data entry, improve communication, and enhance efficiency. Building on the existing foundation, SIS and Siemens are developing future product releases that continue to strengthen interoperability, which will further integrate acute perioperative processes with the rest of the enterprise.
Integration of information was of critical importance to Mountain States Health Alliance (MSHA), a Siemens client with 13 hospitals in Tennessee and Virginia. MSHA recently selected the Siemens perioperative management solution by SIS to replace its existing perioperative IT solution.
Mike Mistretta, Vice President and CIO at MedCentral Health System (MedCentral) in Mansfield, Ohio, says integration is the key to improving efficiency and communication across the care continuum. "As a Siemens shop, we wanted to make sure we had a perioperative solution that would integrate back to our record," Mistretta said. "The SIS solution meets that need and helps ensure we have a single patient record across our two hospitals and surgery center."
Regional Medical Center at Memphis, MSHA and MedCentral have achieved the results envisioned by SIS and Siemens when they announced their collaboration a little over a year ago. "It is gratifying to see our strategic alliance with Siemens begin to pay off for our mutual clients," said Ed Daihl, SIS Chief Executive Officer. "These clients prove the benefits of combining the enterprise experience of Siemens with the OR expertise of SIS. Together we are helping hospitals improve efficiency, reduce cost and provide quality care."
