On Thursday, August 16, United States Surgeon General Regina M. Benjamin, M.D., MBA, will help kick off APMA's 2012 Annual Scientific Meeting in exciting fashion as APMA's guest of honor. Being held at Washington's Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, the 100th annual meeting will welcome nearly 2,000 podiatrists and guests from around the world to hear Dr. Benjamin speak about the state of the nation's health care during the opening session.
"APMA is incredibly honored to have the opportunity to have Dr. Benjamin share her perspective on America's health care with our podiatrists and guests. As she is our country's top public health official, I personally look forward to hearing her thoughts on the diabetes crisis and how podiatrists can best serve our patients as physicians, surgeons, and specialists," said Joseph M. Caporusso, DPM, APMA president.
Following Dr. Benjamin's address and a performance by comedian David Glickman, meeting attendees will have access to an exhibit hall, cutting-edge lectures, and panel discussions pertaining to the latest in medical technology, diabetes treatment, and more.
Other meeting highlights include a sports medicine discussion on barefoot running and injuries in Olympic athletes, the latest collaborative efforts of podiatrists and vein specialists to save lower limbs, and an expert discussion on children's foot care sponsored by footwear company Stride Rite.
APMA recently received acknowledgment from the U.S. Senate, when Resolution 528 recognizing APMA's 100th Anniversary was submitted by Maryland Sen. Ben Cardin and agreed to on the Senate floor.
