Surfrider Celebrates World Water Day With "Every Drop Counts" Campaign And Partners With Speakman To Promote Clean Water

SAN CLEMENTE, Calif., March 1, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In honor of World Water Day, the Surfrider Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the World ocean and 100% of its coastline, is asking citizens across the country to join its "Every Drop Counts" campaign and pledge to skip their shower on World Water Day, March 22. Whether at home, at the beach or at work, it's everyone's responsibility to protect local water supplies and to prevent pollution from reaching the ocean, and pledge to skip the shower on World Water Day, March 22. A ten-minute shower could waste more than 40 gallons of water. If 25,000 people take the pledge, nearly one million gallons of water will be conserved on that day. And the less water that goes down the drain ultimately means less wastewater that needs to be treated and discharged into the ocean and other waterways.

Taking the pledge can last beyond March 22. In addition to sacrificing a shower on World Water Day, consumers can choose to be mindful every day to reduce their water footprint.

1. Keep showers to 5 minutes or less and limit baths.
2. Install low-flow toilets and showerheads (like Speakman Reaction shower head).
3. Fix any leaky plumbing. A single leaky toilet can waste as much as 200 gallons of water per day.
4. Use trashcans for disposing of trash, not toilets.
5. Don't waste water outdoors. Make your yard Ocean Friendly.
