LEESBURG, Va., May 9, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Paramount Business Jets, a global aircraft charter, jet card membership, sales, and leasing broker salutes Captain Shaesta Waiz as she prepares to embark May 13 from Daytona Beach, FL in a single-engine Beechcraft A36 Bonanza to become the youngest woman to fly solo around the world. PBJ is among the sponsors of this "Dreams Soar" round-the-world flight.
"It's been exciting to watch as Shaesta and the entire Dreams Soar team have prepared for this mission, and it is truly an honor to support an extraordinary individual who aims to inspire young people throughout her upcoming journey and beyond," said Richard Zaher, president and CEO of Paramount Business Jets.
Born in a refugee camp, Capt. Waiz emigrated with her family in 1987 from Afghanistan at the height of the Soviet-Afghan war. As a child, she ardently pursued her education despite living in one of the country's most underprivileged school districts, as well as pressure to follow a more traditional path as an adult.
Shortly after her high school graduation, a commercial airline flight led Capt. Waiz to pursue a collegiate education and flight training at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) in Daytona Beach. She became the first person in her family to earn a bachelor's and master's degree, as well as the first certified civilian female pilot from Afghanistan.
Zaher also noted that PBJ's support for Dreams Soar is just one of the many ways in which the company and its employees give back to the community. "We work with extraordinary causes led by inspirational people," he continued, "and we're proud to support them as they make a difference to countless lives."
Among the programs PBJ is proud to support include:
- Leesburg Aviation Expo - Paramount Business Jets regularly sponsors ProJet Aviation's Annual Aviation Education Career Expo in Leesburg, VA. Dependent solely upon private donations and corporate support, this free event aims to inspire young adults aged 16-22 to explore career options in the world of aviation, with scholarship opportunities available to assist these students in pursuing their futures in aviation.
- Recycle Life - Founded in 2009 by Dave Morgan and Juan Arevalo, two brothers born with a hereditary heart condition, Recycle Life provides practical support for other organ recipients and their families, and helps raise awareness about the importance of organ donation. "An organ transplant is life-saving, but also life-altering," notes Dave Morgan. "We want to reassure other organ recipients about the process and let them know they are not alone during their recovery."
- Paramount Business Jets Scholarship Fund - With the cost of higher education skyrocketing, many students work multiple jobs and rely on high-interest loans to make it through college. They graduate into a highly competitive job market, often balancing low-paid entry level jobs with huge student loan debts. Launched in partnership with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU), the Paramount Business Jets Scholarship Fund aims to address this by alleviating some of the financial burdens faced by aviation students at ERAU's Dayton Beach campus.
"Those involved in aviation have a profound responsibility to contribute not only to our industry, but throughout their own communities as well," Zaher concluded. "It's particularly important that we support endeavors, like Dreams Soar, aimed at inspiring others and helping talented, passionate individuals reach their full potential."
