Supplemental Health Care Teams Up With Vaccine Ambassadors
Alliance to provide vaccines for 5,000 Children and increase awareness of Child Vaccinations
RALEIGH, N.C., Dec. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Supplemental Health Care, a premier national healthcare staffing company, announced today it has formed an alliance with Vaccine Ambassadors in an effort to ensure that all children have access to lifesaving vaccines. Many people are unaware that each year over 22 million children go without basic immunization, 90% of these children reside in low and middle-income countries. Because of this lack of protection 1.5 million children will die before they reach their 5th birthday due to vaccine preventable diseases this year alone.
"As a company, our mission is to positively impact patient care by ensuring that healthcare facilities have the qualified clinicians they need, when they need them. We believe that our relationship with Vaccine Ambassadors is the perfect extension of this mission – making a positive impact on the health of children around the world," said Janet Elkin, President and CEO of Supplemental Health Care. "Through our corporate sponsorship we are committed to purchasing vaccines for at least 5,000 children in the coming year."
Founded in 2012, Vaccine Ambassadors began as a pediatric clinic-based program that offers parents and children the opportunity to become Vaccine Ambassadors during their doctor's visit. Recently they have expanded to include other venues where people receive immunizations. Their core belief is that all children deserve equitable access to life-saving vaccines, regardless of where they live. By providing a convenient, affordable and tangible program, everyone can be a Vaccine Ambassador. A single $2 dollar donation affords one more child in the world access to vaccinations that otherwise wouldn't be possible.
Vaccine Ambassadors is able to purchase quality vaccines at a competitive rate through a unique partnership with the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO). "We rely on PAHO's 112 years of experience as leaders in public health to determine which vaccines are needed the most and where," states Jackie Kaufman, co-founder and Executive Director of Vaccine Ambassadors
"The leadership that Supplemental Health Care has demonstrated on behalf of the world's children is to be admired. As a company serving the healthcare sector they are keenly aware of the incredible impact that vaccines have had in our country and throughout the world. The fact that they have chosen to become Vaccine Ambassadors speaks volumes about their commitment to the health of all children. We are humbled by their generosity and proud to have them as partners as we work towards a world where all children are protected against these potentially deadly diseases," states Kaufman. The Centers for Disease Control conservatively estimates immunizations have saved more that 20 million lives over the past two decades.
