Superior to Donate $5,000 to Post, Texas, Independent School District
Donation to be used for nurse supplies following elementary school fire
AUSTIN, Texas, Nov. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Superior HealthPlan (Superior) is pleased to announce a donation of $5,000 to help students, staff and the community in Post, Texas, recover from a devastating fire in September at Post Elementary School. The donation will be used by the school's nurse to purchase supplies that were lost in the fire.
"We are happy we can help the school district in this way," said Superior Community Outreach Coordinator Andrea Cruce. "This was a terrible event, but Superior wants to be part of the recovery efforts as everyone looks to move on. We want to show our support for the community as well as for Jo-Ann Travis, the wonderful nurse who takes such great care of the children every day. This was the best way we could do so."
The fire destroyed the third-through-fifth grade wings at the school while the rest of the building was damaged by smoke, causing classes to be cancelled for several days. Because a new high school was recently completed, the students and faculty at Post Elementary will be able to finish out the remainder of the school year at the recently vacated high school.
"This generosity will directly benefit our teachers and students," Travis, the school's nurse, told Superior in response to the donation. "Please know how much you've helped our students during our time of need. We can't thank you enough."
Anyone who would like to donate to the district is asked to contact Kim Mills-Oller, Director of Programs, by calling 1-806-495-3343. The school has more than 460 students and 50 staff members. Post, Texas, is 40 miles southeast of Lubbock.
