SAINT ALBANS, Vt., March 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Superior Technical Ceramics (STC) has released a new white paper that discusses the technical aspects and practical applications of recent refinements to their porous alumina material solutions product line. The new materials have smaller mean pore sizes and narrower pore distributions than other porous ceramics currently available on the market. This permits them to be used in place of standard polymer membranes for ultrafiltration and nanofiltration applications.

"The smaller pore size and narrower pore distribution of these porous alumina materials sets STC apart from its competitors," said Director of Technology, Tariq Quadir, PhD. "From an engineering standpoint, we're impressed with the utility of the sub 0.1 micron mean pore size; it's an innovation with a wide array of practical uses, with applications in industries ranging from pharmaceuticals and petroleum, to alternative energies."
The white paper underscores that porous aluminas offer significant benefits over standard polymer membranes, including high thermal and chemical resistance, superior strength and longer lifespans. These characteristics also allow for aggressive cleaning using high temperatures and corrosive chemicals, without destroying the underlying material substructure. For the same reasons, STC's porous alumina ceramics are often used as membrane and catalyst support structures due to their high durability and strength.
The white paper is available on Superior Technical Ceramic's website and can be seen here. It should be of interest to anyone seeking to engineer impact resistant, wear resistant or chemically inert components.
