AUSTIN, Texas, Nov. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Superior HealthPlan (Superior) is proud to recognize Dr. Jose E. Lares with an award for providing quality care and clinical excellence to Texas children and adults enrolled in Medicaid and CHIP.

The Summit Award is given to one Superior physician each year who exemplifies exceptional performance scores in regard to Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) and quality measures. Dr. Lares is the recipient of the 2014 award as recognized by Superior and the Superior Quality Improvement Committee.

Dr. Lares is an Internist who helps lead the RGV (Rio Grande Valley) Adult & Geriatric Medicine Specialists team. Board certified in Internal Medicine, Dr. Lares provides comprehensive outpatient care and medical consultations for hospitalized patients at Knapp Medical Center, Doctors Hospital at Renaissance and Weslaco Rehab Hospital. He is also a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at UTHSCSA Regional Academic Center. Additionally, Dr. Lares is a Clinical Instructor for Physician Assistant Studies Program at the University of Texas-Pan American. His clinical interests include preventative medicine, rehabilitation medicine, hospice and palliative care and hospital medicine.
