Superior HealthPlan Honors Antonio Figueroa, MD, with Annual Summit Award

Brownsville Physician Selected from Statewide Network of Providers for Offering Excellence in Care

AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Superior HealthPlan (Superior) is proud to recognize Dr. Antonio Figueroa with an award for providing quality care and clinical excellence to Texas children enrolled in Superior's managed care products.

The Summit Award is given to one Superior physician each year who exemplifies exceptional performance scores in regard to Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) and quality measures. In addition, the recipient must have passed appointment availability and after-hours audits (if applicable), have zero incidents of quality of care or quality of service issues and have no open fraud, waste and abuse cases. Dr. Figueroa is the recipient of the 2015 award as recognized by Superior and the Superior Quality Improvement Committee.

A board certified pediatrician, Dr. Figueroa operates a private practice in Brownsville, Texas, where he provides pediatric care for newborns through adolescence. Dr. Figueroa obtained his medical degree in El Salvidor where he went on to teach as an assistant professor at National University of El Salvador. He completed his residency in pediatrics at Benjamin Bloom Children's Hospital in San Salvador and was a Pediatric Resident at Christ Hospital Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Illinois. Prior to starting his private practice, Dr. Figueroa worked for indigent children affected by war in El Salvador for five years. His research has been published in the Pediatric Association and by the National University of El Salvador.
