Superior HealthPlan Earns Four Stars from NCQA
The Austin-based company is the top-rated managed care plan in Texas.
AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 18, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Superior HealthPlan (Superior) is pleased to announce it has received one of the highest ratings from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). Superior earned a score of 4.0 on a 5.0 scale on the NCQA's Medicaid Health Insurance Plan Ratings 2016-2017, the only Medicaid health plan in Texas to do so.
"We are incredibly proud of this achievement and believe it further demonstrates our commitment to providing the best possible care to our members," said Dr. David Harmon, Chief Medical Director at Superior. "Applying for NCQA Accreditation is voluntary, but it's a process that we believe in and is a prime example of the standard of care we aim to provide our members throughout Texas."
The NCQA Accreditation ratings are calculated based on Health Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) scores, Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) scores and NCQA Accreditation standard scores. The NCQA Accreditation rating system is considered the most comprehensive evaluation in the healthcare industry.
The ratings are broken down into three main categories and many sub-categories. Superior earned a 5.0 out of 5.0 in several of those, including consumer satisfaction of specialists, adolescent well-care visits and immunizations, prenatal checkups and ongoing prenatal care as well as follow-up care after hospitalizations for mental illness. In total, Superior earned a score of 4.0 or higher out of 5.0 in 20 of the 51 specific measures.
"We spend a lot of time and energy ensuring our members receive preventive services, health screenings and appropriate treatment." said Susan Mills, Vice President of Quality Improvement. "We will continue to work with providers across Texas to make sure our members are receiving quality care every single day."
