AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Superior HealthPlan (Superior) today announced the winners of their Community Champions for Children Award. The Community Champion for Children Awardees for 2014 are Kim Cheung M.D. and Anu Partap M.D.
Superior annually recognizes Providers that show extraordinary commitment to the wellbeing of STAR Health Members through advocacy or community service with a Community Champion for Children Award. STAR Health is a part of the Medicaid program, which provides health care services throughout the state of Texas to children in Foster Care.
Dr. Cheung, Associate Professor of Pediatrics at UT Health-Houston Medical School, leads the Harris County Children's Protective Services (CPS) Medical Clinic in Houston, Texas. The clinic provides comprehensive general pediatric care for children with CPS involvement, including cases of suspected abuse and neglect. Under Dr. Cheung's direction, medical care is provided 24/7 in order to perform assessments for this vulnerable population.
Dr. Partap, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center, helped form the new Rees-Jones Center for Foster Care Excellence at Children's Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. This is the state's first center dedicated to the advancement of health of children in Foster Care. As director, Dr. Partap is working to establish three programs focused on medical services, research and community development to help raise foster care practice standards. Dr. Partap is dedicated in helping address the serious gaps in the coordination of medical, mental health and social services for children in Foster Care.
