Superior HealthPlan Announces Winner of Community Champion for Children Award
Provider recognized for health-care advocacy of children in foster care
AUSTIN, Texas, April 5, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Superior HealthPlan (Superior) today announced the winner of its 2015 Community Champion for Children Award: Stonebridge Behavioral Health. Located in San Antonio, Stonebridge is currently under the leadership of Kirk L. Coverstone, Ph.D., president, Norbert J. Strauss, chief operating officer, Michael R. Ghormley, Ph.D., M.B.A., president of psychological services and Charles H. Sargent, M.D., medical director.
Superior annually recognizes a provider that demonstrates extraordinary commitment to the wellbeing of STAR Health members through advocacy or community service with a Community Champion for Children Award. STAR Health is a part of the Medicaid program, which provides health care throughout the state of Texas to children in foster care.
Stonebridge Behavioral Health was founded in 2003 to provide reliable assessment and psychotherapy services to meet the needs of foster care children in Texas. Many children in the foster care population have faced unique challenges that can impact their physical, emotional, and cognitive development. In addition, these youth are often subjected to frequent moves between different foster homes, residential facilities, and the juvenile justice system. Stonebridge Behavioral Health offers these children consistency and stability by allowing them to utilize the same behavioral health providers, despite various moves and life changes. In addition, Stonebridge's use of tele-psychiatry services has enabled psychiatrists to foster and build long-lasting relationships with at-risk youth.
"Superior is proud to recognize Stonebridge Behavioral Health for its work in serving members in Superior's foster care program," said Dr. David Harmon, Chief Medical Director at Superior HealthPlan. "From the high quality assessment and psychotherapy services, to the stability and consistency that Stonebridge provides for our members, they are helping to transform the health of the foster care community, one child at a time."
