superGraphics completes record shattering graphic for Boeing factory
SEATTLE, Aug. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- superGraphics, a Seattle-based specialist in visual communications solutions, took on a unique challenge to update a world-record holding mural for Boeing's gigantic factory bay doors. Begun in May 2014 and kept to a tight deadline, the firm created the 106,000 square foot graphic that spanned over six hangar doors.
The Boeing plant is the largest building in the world by volume with each of the facility's doors measuring the length of a National Football League field. With six of them to cover, the full length of the image stretched to 1900 feet.
"Many of the world's most recognizable brands ask superGraphics to solve their unique program challenges," said Cindy Victor, senior business development director for corporate and public venues at superGraphics. "We were honored to partner with Boeing to successfully complete the world's largest graphic on one of the most dynamic manufacturing facilities ever developed. It was a huge home run for everyone involved."
The superGraphics team spent approximately eight months in development, from early concept discussions with key Boeing personnel to install completion. The mural when laid flat is as big as a midsize city and can accommodate the size of 12,000 people laying across it.
Called "Day Cycle," the design features a group of commercial jet airliners Boeing makes set against changing skies, each plane being paired with the color of the sky from dusk to dawn.
More than 23,000 Boeing employees voted for the internal brand team's design to decorate the plant's doors, making it a project that both Washington state companies cherished. The graphic evokes the around-the-clock cycle of its factory in producing planes that are used across the world.
"Our partnership with Boeing, a world class leader in aerospace technology, has spanned over four decades," Victor said. "We look forward to working with this Iconic Brand for years to come!"
