LOS ANGELES, July 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The world's first in-theater gaming league, Super League Gaming, will take over 80+ movie theaters across 25 major U.S. cities for their Super League Gaming Summer Tour and is stopping in select Colorado theaters beginning on August 3rd, 2015. Players around the country will have the unique opportunity to play Super League's first game, Minecraft, side-by-side and in-person at their local movie theater for the first time ever.
Super League has partnered with the nation's three largest movie theater chains -- Regal Entertainment Group, AMC Theatres, and Cinemark Theatres, as well as luxury chain iPic Theaters -- to transform video games into collaborative, team-building activities for kids.
The coast-to-coast, 25-city tour will run from June 15th through August 26th to introduce Super League Gaming's unique concept and get the word out about league gameplay, which starts with 6-week sessions on September 14th.
"Our own children were the inspiration for Super League," says Super League Gaming Co-Founder and Chief Visionary John Miller. "We saw how much our kids loved to play and we wanted to bring a more positive element to the whole thing. Making games interactive, team-based, and bringing gamers into a movie theater to play face-to-face really changes the experience for everyone. Parents, especially, love watching their kids build, strategize and collaborate, all on a giant movie screen where they can see the live action unfolding."
Each event is comprised of a 100-minute session that includes live team gameplay and individual battles, while players work to climb the leaderboard. Gamers play in the traditional first-person view on their laptops while watching a customized third-person aerial 'world view' with all players on the theater screen.
"We're thrilled about the new way in which Super League Gaming is able to use our facilities to help kids connect," says Cinemark VP, Head of Marketing & Communications, James Meredith. "We combine the latest technology with plush accommodations for an immersive entertainment experience perfect for gamers. Plus, they get to see their game happening right on the big screen."
Minecraft, one of the the world's most downloaded computer games, lets players use their imaginations to build anything they can conjure up in a 3D world. The popularity of the game has exploded in recent years thanks to YouTube gamers like CaptainSparklez, a YouTube celebrity with over 8.6 million subscribers, and a founding gamer among the Super League team.
"It's the social aspect that makes this really special," says Super League President and COO, Brett Morris. "The lights are up, kids are running around and making new friends, and parents are taking part in the activities. I'm a dad myself and it was so evident to us that kids don't want to play alone by themselves in their bedrooms. They want to get out and interact with other kids, doing something they enjoy."
The Summer Tour will bring Super League Gaming to over 80 theaters in the U.S. for $20 per event, followed by 6 week league sessions in the fall where gamers play once a week for $120 per session.
Super League's Summer Tour will be stopping in Denver at the AMC Cherry Creek 8 and media are invited to attend. The Super League founding team will also be onsite and available for interviews during the event. For press passes or other requests please email Jasmine ([email protected]).
