SunRun Receives Two New Awards for Making Home Solar Affordable for More Americans
SunRun recognized as SEIA Solar Champion and named to Cleantech 100 list
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- SunRun, the nation's leading home solar company, was honored this week by two leading industry organizations for pioneering a way to provide simpler and more affordable home solar. The company was named a Solar Champion in the Innovator category by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), and also named to the Cleantech 100 list.
"It's an honor to receive multiple honors for pursuing our passion – making home solar accessible and affordable for millions of Americans," said SunRun President and Co-founder Lynn Jurich. "Every week we bring on new employees who dedicate themselves to this cause, and it's the group effort that keeps us at the forefront of the industry."
SunRun invented solar power service – also called 3rd-party-owned solar or leasing – as a way for homeowners to switch to solar for as little as $0 upfront. SunRun owns, insures and maintains solar panels and installs them on a homeowner's roof. Families pay a low monthly rate for clean energy and fix their energy costs for 20 years.
SEIA Solar Champions, announced at Solar Power International, were chosen based on the significant impact they made during the last year in helping build a strong U.S. solar industry. SEIA noted that SunRun was selected for leading the charge in making solar installation more affordable and straightforward for homeowners, particularly in streamlining local permitting and eliminating unnecessary permitting costs.
"Innovative financing options offered by companies like SunRun are making solar more affordable to consumers and bringing the industry closer to meeting its goal to install 10 gigawatts of solar each and every year by 2015," said SEIA President and CEO Rhone Resch.
The Global Cleantech 100 list was announced by Cleantech Group and highlights the private clean technology companies from around the world that are likely to have the most significant market impact over the next five to 10 years.
"We are proud of how quickly the Global Cleantech 100 list has gained recognition as a leading resource in the cleantech sector," said Sheeraz Haji, Cleantech Group CEO. "Stakeholders including members of the corporate community, investors, and regulators now watch the Global Cleantech 100 list closely to gauge which sectors look most promising and which companies are poised for growth."
