SunRun Appoints Vice President of Engineering
Dr. Miguel Pinilla joins SunRun to create operating system for the future of solar
SAN FRANCISCO, May 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- SunRun, the nation's leading home solar company, today announced that Dr. Miguel Pinilla joined the company as Vice President of Engineering. One in eight homeowners who went solar in 2010 chose SunRun and the company installs over $1 million in solar systems every day. Dr. Pinilla and his team of engineers are developing the software infrastructure needed to deliver affordable residential solar power to millions of American homes as SunRun continues to expand.
"I was drawn to SunRun because we have the opportunity to shape the software operating system for home solar in the United States," said Pinilla. "This company has already pioneered a way to remove the high upfront costs from solar so more families can afford it. Making sure we can do that for millions of families is an inspiring task, and one that I appreciate every day. I'm looking forward to building out the team that will create the future of solar energy."
Prior to joining SunRun Pinilla led technology development and innovation efforts for SmartTurn (now RedPrairie) to develop and bring to market its on-demand inventory and warehousing applications. Before SmartTurn he was Senior Director of Engineering for Marine Systems at Navis, a global leader in logistics systems, and Vice President of Engineering for Informative (now Satmetrix). He also led the development of operations and maintenance software for the Alcatel/Lucent broadband switches in Europe. Originally from Zaragoza, Spain, Pinilla came to the United States as a Fulbright scholar, earning a Master of Engineering degree from Carnegie Mellon University and a PhD from Stanford University in Manufacturing Information Systems. He holds several patents and has published multiple technical papers.
"Miguel combines tremendous attention to detail with a vision for scale and efficiency that has our entire engineering department excited," said SunRun Co-founder and President Lynn Jurich. "Since he started, the engineering department has attracted new talent to support our passion for giving customers and partners the highest quality service and technology in the industry."
