SUNRAYS Wins 2010 International Superyacht Society (ISS) Award
ALBLASSERDAM, The Netherlands, November 4, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Oceanco's recent launch, M/Y SUNRAYS, has won the 2010 ISS Design and Leadership Award for Best Power Yacht in the 65m+ category. The award, which represents a superlative achievement, was presented on October 28th, the first night of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, at the 20th Anniversary ISS Awards Gala.
The ISS Design and Leadership Award, which is judged by an experienced peer group of yacht designers and professionals, is proof of the continued excellence Oceanco has achieved in producing some of the most sophisticated and innovative luxury superyachts in the world. The award signifies a very important achievement and underscores Oceanco's commitment to designing and building acclaimed superyachts of exceptional craftsmanship, style and innovation.
SUNRAYS, an 85.5m (280.5ft) full displacement superyacht, has twin 3,492kW MTU 16V 595 TE 70 engines and can achieve a maximum speed of 20 knots. She is extremely recognizable because of her distinctive teal-colored hull, flared bow and a curvy aluminum superstructure created by the artful Bjorn Johansson Design. Her stately contemporary interior is the work of Terence Disdale Design. SUNRAYS represents a collaborative team effort among Oceanco, the Designers, and Burgess, who provided the technical supervision for the Owner.
Disdale struck an emotional chord with all those present in the audience when he took the microphone and paid heartfelt tribute to Johansson, who tragically passed away during the construction of the yacht. It was a jubilant and emotional moment on stage as the award was collected by Sally and Christopher Johansson on behalf of their son, Bjorn Johansson. In concert with Terence Disdale's comments, Oceanco also dedicated the award to friend and colleague, Bjorn Johansson.
