SunPower Announces its Advancements in Resource Conservation and Environmental Stewardship in Latest Sustainability Report
Company Joins Circular Economy 100, Furthering its Environmental Leadership
SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- SunPower Corp. (NASDAQ: SPWR), a leading solar technology and energy services provider, today announced that it has released its latest Sustainability Report which details the company's advancements in resource conservation and its leadership in areas such as LEED certification for its factories and offices worldwide. Highlights from this report include:
- Received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certifications for its San Jose, Calif. Headquarters, Fab 2 solar cell manufacturing plant in the Philippines and Fab 3 AUO SunPower administration building in Malaysia
- Assisted more than 170 schools and 60,000 students through its participation in the Alliance for Mindanao Off-Grid Renewable Energy program (AMORE)
- Installed 4.7 gigawatts of solar globally as of Dec. 12, 2013, cumulatively avoiding almost 10 million metric tons of CO2
- Since 2008, the company's total normalized greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions fell by 47 percent as measured by metric tons of CO2 per megawatt (MW) produced
To further its leadership and commitment for a more sustainable world, the company also announced that it has joined the Circular Economy 100 (CE100) as the solar industry thought leader. The CE100 is a global platform that brings together leading companies, emerging innovators and regions to accelerate the transition to a circular economy. The goals of this program, created by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, are to enable participants to implement circular economy initiatives within their own operations and help work towards building a regenerative and circular economy.

Earlier this month, SunPower announced that its E-Series and X-Series solar panels manufactured at its Mexicali, Mexico plant, have been awarded the Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Silver distinction by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute. These are the first and only solar products to be awarded this certification, which is based on the sustainable manufacturing processes implemented at this facility.
