Sundyne Receives OSHA VPP Star Certification; Recognizing Safety Leadership
ARVADA, Colo., July 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Last week, Sundyne Arvada celebrated the successful recertification of its Star status for OSHA's Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP). Meghan Meger, an OSHA representative, presented the award to Shawn Olson, GM of Sundyne Arvada, during a ceremony attended by Sundyne employees and Arvada Mayor Marc Williams.
VPP is OSHA's premier recognition program for worksites that do an excellent job of protecting their employees. VPP certification recognizes that Sundyne voluntarily goes above and beyond its legal obligations to protect workers' safety and health, as demonstrated via low injury rates and the facilitation of a continuous improvement culture within the company.
Attaining VPP Star status isn't easy. In 2010, Sundyne submitted an extensive written application addressing the major elements of the program. That same year, OSHA evaluated Sundyne, sending a team of safety and health experts to conduct an extensive onsite review. The team verified that the Sundyne safety and health management system was operating effectively and that it meets VPP requirements for a Star site.
However, retaining VPP is even more difficult. OSHA conducts reapproval evaluations at Star sites on a regular basis. In 2013, Sundyne successfully went through a recertification of Star status. Sundyne has maintained VPP's high standards and is proud of its employees' grassroots program and commitment to health and safety.
"One of our core values is employee well being," stated Sundyne President Jeff Wiemelt during the award ceremony. He also stated, "A strong safety culture, as recognized by VPP Star, is essential to living that value."
Sundyne has become a critical partner in OSHA's mission to protect American workers. Sundyne voluntarily shares expertise and experience with OSHA, as well as with other communities and businesses via outreach activities. This year Sundyne presented on VPP best practices at the Region VIII VPPPA Conference in Denver and at the Wyoming Workforce Summit. Sundyne is also scheduled to present in August at the National VPPPA Conference in Maryland.
