Sunbelt Software Wins VBSPAM Award

CLEARWATER, Fla., Jan. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Sunbelt Software, a leading provider of Windows security software, today announced that its VIPRE® Email Security has received a VBSpam award from Virus Bulletin, the highly-respected independent comparative testing group, in the January 2010 issue of its online publication.

Sunbelt Software, in its first-ever entry into this prestigious review, scored a Spam Catch (SC) rate of 98.77 percent, positioning it squarely against other leading antispam vendors. The VBSpam tests use Virus Bulletin's live email stream as well as a spam corpus provided by Project Honey Pot. The tests measure the false positive rate and the spam catch rate of the products, with VBSpam certifications awarded to products that exceed a predefined benchmark based on both measurements.

Virus Bulletin tested fifteen different antispam products and included two new categories of spam in this test including 'image spam' consisting of spam emails that contained at least one image and 'large spam' comprised of a body size of at least 50,000 bytes – both notoriously difficult to filter.  VIPRE, achieved a final score of 96.85 percent based on overall SC, false positives and honey pot tests.
