The new directors are Robert R. Fafinski, Jr., shareholder and CEO of Fafinski Mark & Johnson law firm; and Michael J. Opat, Chair of the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners.
"We are pleased to announce the addition of our two new directors who will further diversify and strengthen our board," said Marty Davis, Chairman of Sun Country Airlines. "These gentlemen are respected and well established in business and enterprise throughout the Upper Midwest. Bob and Mike will provide our board with strong insight and a wealth of experience as we move forward at the Hometown Airline."
Mr. Fafinski has been practicing law since 1983 in the areas of corporate law, corporate finance, aviation, equipment leasing, merger and acquisitions and the representation of professional associations. Prior to founding Fafinski Mark & Johnson, he served as chair of the Business Law Department and on the management committee of one of Minnesota's largest law firms. Mr. Fafinski has consistently been named a "Super Lawyer" and "Leading American Attorney" and has been designated one of the world's leading commercial aviation attorneys by a respected international aviation journal.
Commissioner Opat is the chair of the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners, the governing body for the largest county in Minnesota. Prior to serving as commissioner, he was a supervisor at the Hennepin Adult Correctional Facility and Minnesota Correctional Officer of the Year. Commissioner Opat was elected to the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners in 1992 and has served from 1993 to present. He led the effort with the Minnesota Twins to finance and build Target Field ballpark in downtown Minneapolis, which opened in 2010; led the transition of HCMC to Hennepin Healthcare System, Inc., a governance change that gave the county hospital greater autonomy and operational flexibility; and has also been involved in numerous transportation improvement projects.
