Sun Center Studios Takes Center Stage in Pennsylvania With 216kW Solar System
Joins Major Hollywood Studios - Warner Brothers and Twentieth Century Fox - in the Commitment to Renewable Energy
CHESTER TOWNSHIP, Pa., May 27, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Sun Center Studios, the newest and most anticipated facility dedicated to help establish Pennsylvania as a haven for filmmaking, has just unveiled a 216 kilowatt (kW) solar energy system, thereby joining some of Hollywood's leading film studios in a commitment to sustainability and renewable energy sources. The system is the largest solar project in Delaware County, PA and ranks in the Top 1 percent of all solar projects funded by the Pennsylvania Sunshine Solar Rebate Program. Mercury Solar Systems' Philadelphia office designed and installed the system with the help of IBEW Local 654 Electricians and Pusey Electric in March 2011.
"Sun Center Studios' commitment to sustainability extends throughout the entire facility from the efficient design of the campus's new buildings and stormwater management, our use of organic and locally grown foods whenever possible, to our participation in "smart-grid" technology programs through integrated demand response and the installation of electric vehicle charging stations along with a fleet of hybrids for our production company clients," commented Adam Rotwitt, Senior Vice President of Sun Center Studios. "We believe our studio will serve as a role model for other local Pennsylvania businesses as well as companies operating in the film and television industry."
The solar system is expected to produce enough energy to power 19 average size homes and reduce 270,626 pounds of carbon dioxide every year. This is equivalent to recycling over 4.2 million cans of soda, planting 21 acres of trees and taking 27 cars off the road annually.
"We continue to see strong demand from businesses looking to invest in solar energy due to the environment benefits but also because of the significant cost savings they will realize over the life of the system," said Andrew Kleeman, Senior Vice President of Mercury Solar Systems.
David Richman, Commercial Sales for Mercury Solar Systems further commented, "The solar incentives in Pennsylvania and New Jersey are some of the most generous in the country making this an optimal time to invest. We commend Sun Center Studios for incorporating solar into their state-of-the art facility."
