- Independent analysis finds $30,474 in modeled median savings per engaged member, per journey through changed treatment paths
- Findings remained consistent across multiple measurement windows
NEW YORK, Oct. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Summus, a physician-led, multi-specialty care platform that supports members across complex healthcare journeys while helping employers and health plans manage specialty healthcare costs, today announced the publication of an independent analysis conducted by Arbital Health evaluating the modeled medical cost impact associated with changed treatment paths across Summus' condition-specific specialty care programs.
The analysis provides independent, modeled evidence of the potential economic value of longitudinal physician-led orchestration in specialty care, with findings that remained consistent across multiple measurement periods and approaches to measuring medical costs.
Independent Analysis Demonstrates Consistent Modeled Savings
Using industry-standard MarketScan claims data, Arbital Health independently rebuilt Summus' cost comparison across 109 cases with changed treatment paths using a primary 45-day measurement window encompassing 15 days before and 30 days after the episode anchor. The analysis found:
- $30,474 in modeled median medical allowed savings per engaged member per journey
- $3.32 million in aggregate modeled savings across the 109 cases evaluated
- Results that remained consistent across 30-day, 45-day, 60-day, and 90-day measurement windows, with savings varying by approximately 3%
- Consistency across both allowed and paid medical costs
Positive modeled cost impact in aggregate was observed across all condition programs analyzed, further supporting the consistency of the findings across the cases evaluated.
The methodology used in the analysis was Summus' published approach to measuring medical cost impact. The analysis builds on a separate 2022 review by Milliman, which evaluated Summus' broader savings methodology and found the approach reasonable and consistent with typical actuarial practice.
"Employers and health plans are under increasing pressure to manage the rising cost of specialty care while continuing to support members through the most complex journeys in healthcare," said Julian Flannery, Founder and CEO of Summus. "This independent analysis adds important evidence to the economic value of our model and demonstrates the potential impact of giving members timely access to trusted physicians who support and orchestrate members through their care journey. By helping people reach the right care faster and make more informed decisions about their healthcare, our longitudinal programs create meaningful value for members while also helping employers manage specialty healthcare costs more effectively."
The analysis is a modeled benchmark comparison and does not establish causality or measure net ROI, as program fees were outside the scope of the analysis.
Physician-Led Orchestration Across Complex Care Journeys
The modeled savings identified in the analysis reflect the complex healthcare journeys Summus is designed to support. A relatively small percentage of members with complex health needs can account for a disproportionate share of healthcare spending, with members navigating multiple specialties, providers, and treatment decisions that lead to fragmented care, redundant utilization, and delays in achieving the best possible outcome.
Through its physician-led, multi-specialty model, Summus provides longitudinal, whole-person support to help members understand their health situation, synthesize clinical perspectives, and connect with appropriate providers and specialists as their needs evolve. With complex members typically having multiple diagnoses, Summus' multi-specialty approach can guide members across interrelated conditions involving disparate parts of the body and avoid a fragmented approach to care.
"For members navigating complex care, the challenge is often not a lack of information, but making sense of multiple options, sequence treatment choices, and focus on the right specialties involved at the moments when decisions matter most," said Mary Mulcare, M.D., FACEP, DipABLM, Chief Medical Officer of Summus. "Our physician-led model is designed to provide continuity and clinical guidance across those transitions, helping members better understand their options, connect with the right expertise, and move through their care journey with greater clarity."
Members can connect with a Summus physician within 12 to 24 hours and access leading specialists within days. Summus currently provides access to 120+ specialties across 50+ leading U.S. hospitals, and supports members with primary condition programs spanning Oncology, Heart Health, GI Health, Brain Health, Complex Orthopedics & Spine, Specialty Pediatrics, and Women's Health.
By providing longitudinal physician support at critical decision points, Summus aims to reduce fragmentation, improve access to leading specialists, and help members make more informed healthcare decisions with their treating physicians.
The independent analysis comes as employers and health plans increasingly focus on managing specialty healthcare spending while improving the experience of members navigating high-cost and complex care. Summus' physician-led, multi-specialty platform supports members from rising-risk through complex diagnoses and helps employers and health plans avoid unnecessary healthcare spending through whole-person engagement across critical decision points.
