NEW YORK, May 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Summit Professional Networks today announced the appointment of Patricia L. Harman as Editor-in-Chief of Claims magazine, the definitive news and commentary resource for P&C insurance claims professionals and corporate risk managers. In that role, she will oversee the magazine's print and digital editions as well as the Claims channel on PropertyCasualty360.com.
Harman served as the editor-in-chief of C&R magazine, a monthly publication of the Restoration Industry Association, for more than 18 years, covering such stories as the clean-up efforts after 9-11, Katrina, the Nashville flooding in 2010 and Hurricane Sandy in 2012. An award-winning editor and writer, her articles have appeared in more than two dozen publications.
Evan Kessler, Publisher of Claims magazine, said, "I have had the pleasure of knowing Patti as an editor for more than 15 years. Her knowledge of, and relationships with, the insurance industry will provide a fresh perspective and insight for the editorial content of Claims magazine as well as our Claims Connection eNewsletter and Claims Channel on PropertyCasualty360.com. I could not be happier with this selection and I believe she will help to make Claims' editorial better than ever."
"Patti is an established editorial voice in the claims and restoration space, and her track record of digital and print excellence point to a bright future for Claims, as well as for the Claims channel on PropertyCasualty360.com," Bill Coffin, Group Editorial Director for Summit Professional Networks, added. "She is also my kind of editor – smart, relentlessly curious, a great wordsmith and somebody who understands not just the fundamentals of her audience, but also the underlying forces that drive the industry issues of today…and tomorrow."
Harman also served as RIA's director of standards and communications, overseeing the organization's public relations and marketing efforts, and working with the subcommittee that developed RIA's first ANSI-recognized standard related to the identification of soot and char in HVAC systems. She has over 30 years of experience in the non-profit and trade association arenas, working at the local and national levels for several associations and an international franchise organization. In addition to teaching college courses on magazine, news and feature writing, she has also edited four books – three non-fiction and one historical fiction – including one that made the New York Times Best Sellers List.
"I am pleased to join such an esteemed team of journalists," she said. "Claims has long been a leader in covering so many important aspects of the insurance industry, and I look forward to continuing that tradition."
