Summit Pharmacy receives accreditation from national board
PCAB recognizes pharmacy's excellence and commitment to quality standards
PHOENIX, May 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board (PCAB) today announced the accreditation of Summit Pharmacy of Phoenix, the nation's premier workers' compensation pharmacy. The accreditation is awarded in recognition of the pharmacy's commitment to meeting and/or exceeding national quality standards.
"Our new PCAB® accreditation status and our designation as a PCAB Accredited® Compounding pharmacy lets the workers' compensation community know that Summit Pharmacy ranks among the best for commitment to quality," said Dr. Joel Morton, founder, president and medical director, Summit Pharmacy Inc.
"We are honored by this new accreditation. It confirms our commitment to providing safe, personalized solutions that meet the medical needs of our patients – and the needs of the healthcare providers in our community who rely on us for these specialized medicines," said Morton. "We believe this will further strengthen the bond of trust between our pharmacy and the workers' compensation community."
Compounding medications is an integral part of the practice of pharmacy, and the demand for these customized medications is increasing every year. Yet many people may not even be aware of its role. Compounded medications are prescriptions that are written by physicians, veterinarians and other legally authorized prescribers and prepared for an individual patient by a specially trained pharmacist. Summit Pharmacy limits its practice to non-sterile compounding, i.e., the preparation of medications to be ingested, swallowed, inserted or applied to the skin. Sterile compounding is the preparation of medications to be injected, infused or applied to the eye.
