Summit Business Media Names John Whelan as EVP and Head of the Media Division; Other Management Changes Reflect Goal of Augmenting E-Media Structure
NEW YORK, April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Summit Business Media today announced that John Whelan has been named Executive Vice President and Head of Summit's Media Division. Whelan, who had been Senior Vice President and Managing Director of the Media Division's Investment Advisory and Professional Services Groups, came to the company as the most senior executive from Wicks Business Information, which Summit acquired in July 2007.
The move comes as part of a streamlining of management positions and responsibilities at Summit's Media Division to further augment the Company's digital capabilities, said Summit President and CEO Andrew L. Goodenough. As part of that effort, the following promotions have also been put in place: Andrea Shin has been named Group Marketing Director, Joe Haddock has been named Group Technology Director, and Amanda Schuster has been named Director of E-Media Project Development.
"John Whelan is one of the most experienced B-to-B media executives in the publishing industry today, and has great depth of e-media expertise," Goodenough said. "As we embark on the design of our next generation of websites, John has the knowledge necessary to make the most of our digital opportunities. Along with the other organizational changes we have made, we now have the people in place to take Summit's digital media products to the next level, benefiting both readers and advertisers alike."
Whelan is a 17-year publishing veteran. Before coming to Summit, Whelan was Group Publisher for Wicks Business Information. Before that, he spent ten years at Source (formerly Thomson) Media, most recently as Publishing Director of the Investment Advisor Group, which included a variety of print, online, and custom publishing products. He has also served as Director of Electronic Media at Thomson Financial, Publisher of Financial Planning Magazine and Law Editor at Oxford University Press (UK). Whelan is a graduate of Nottingham University and also attended New College, Oxford, England.
At the same time, Goodenough noted that two other executives, Thomas A. Fowler, who had been Senior Vice President and Managing Director of the Media Division's Life/Health and Property/Casualty Insurance Groups, and John DeCesare, Group Publisher of the Life/Health Group, have left Summit to pursue other business interests.
