Summer is Road Trip Season: Here's Some Quick Advice From Financial Education Benefits Center
SAN RAMON, Calif., July 2, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Summer is the season of the road trip. School is on break, the days are long and sunny and the nights are warm. The road is calling and it provides a chance to break the monotony of waking up in the same bed every morning. The call of whatever is around the next bend in the road grows louder and louder with every mile traveled: there is always one more road to try, one more town to see, one more sunset to catch. But the road can be hazardous and the same variables that make it desirable make it dangerous. Having a travel partner can be wise, but having roadside assistance is potentially a lifesaving practice. Financial Education Benefits Center (FEBC), a membership benefits company, offers a roadside assistance benefit to its members to help them deal with any accident or delay on their road trip.
Jennifer Martinez, manager at FEBC, described the potential usefulness of roadside assistance by explaining that, "Having insurance may be your legal obligation and it's useful, but having roadside assistance is like a security blanket. It allows you to venture out on the road with the peace of mind from knowing that issues like a dead battery or an empty gas tank will not ruin your day,"
Even with this peace of mind, a few tips for a successful road trip are always welcome. Checking car essentials like oil, water, washer fluid and tire pressure should be considered mandatory before departure. A well-planned grocery shopping trip can cut costs of eating out and reduce travel time by reducing the need to stop for food. When eating out is necessary or desirable, avoid chains and corporate restaurants — try to find where locals eat. Instead of making hard plans concerning destinations, plan points on the road where a fresh decision about the next move can be made. Don't wait too late in the day to arrange lodging and make sure to bring enough water. Travelers should keep loved ones periodically updated on their location, but also put the phone down as much as possible. Try to find older roads instead of highways. Log the minutes of the trip or keep a journal.
Possibly most important, though, is to have roadside assistance. FEBC suggests that it is best to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. The company offers a roadside assistance benefit that can help members in times of vehicular need. The benefit assists members with towing, retrieving keys from within the locked vehicle, fuel delivery, battery jump-starts and more.
Overall, the road can be an amazing place for self-enrichment and discovery. "Treat the road with respect and you will find it kind and welcoming," said Martinez. "Utilize the long days of summer to find a roadside attraction providing the background for an amazing selfie. Enjoy, and stay safe."
