Summa Health Launches Indoor Navigation App Powered by LogicJunction
CLEVELAND, Feb. 12, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Summa Health is the first hospital system in Northeast Ohio to provide a mobile indoor navigation system to patients and visitors of its downtown Akron campus. In partnership with LogicJunction, a technology firm located in Beachwood, Ohio, the hospital has implemented an app that provides GPS-like guidance indoors, offering turn-by-turn walking directions across its 1.2 million square foot campus.
"Navigating your way around a large hospital, especially when you are under stress because you or a loved one is not feeling well, can be confusing, frustrating and even a bit overwhelming," said Dr. David Custodio, president of Summa's Akron Campus. "Through this new interactive, user-friendly technology, we think visitors will find their way around here much easier. This is especially important now as we prepare to open our new patient tower later this spring."
The Way Finder app is designed to guide visitors throughout the hospital and its three connected medical office buildings via digital maps and routes that can be viewed with your smartphone. The app also provides estimated walking time and distance, a fully searchable doctors' directory, and the ability to save appointment locations for future use.
Summa Health chose LogicJunction's innovative system because it uses a combination of geomagnetic location-based data, Wi-Fi access points, and a minimal quantity of Bluetooth beacons to provide blue dot accuracy within five feet. The hybrid system reduces infrastructure costs and lessens hardware maintenance.
In addition to the mobile app, patients and visitors may also access interactive directions from the hospital's website and appointment reminders, as well as 10 digital kiosks that have been placed within main lobbies and walkways throughout the buildings. To date the system has already helped nearly 10,000 users.
"We were able to launch the system within six months because of Summa's focus and passion for improving the patient experience," said Monica Nowac, LogicJunction's director of Client Services. "We're thrilled to have this installation in our backyard, so we can see the benefits on the local community first-hand."
The free Summa Way Finder app can be found in the iOS app store and the Google Play store. The browser-based version of Summa Way Finder can be found on the hospital's website or by clicking here.
