UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill., Oct. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Federal Signal Corporation's Global Solutions Division, a leader in safety and security solutions, has been selected by the Sugar Land City Council in Texas to provide and implement a customized citywide Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) solution. The ALPR system facilitates the identification, arrest, and conviction of criminals in order to promote safety and well being in the community.
The ALPR solution, integrated by Federal Signal, uses sophisticated algorithms to translate plate images into text to instantaneously cross-reference against a local and state database. A broadband wireless network brings the data back to the police station and police vehicles within the city. The network transmits the data into a comprehensive, searchable database allowing the Sugar Land Police Department to detect patterns, track movements, investigate and ultimately deter criminal activity. The first phase of the project is comprised of 20 key intersections, with other city locations to follow.
"We believe that Sugar Land's proactive approach to public safety will inspire other law enforcement leaders to employ Federal Signal's innovative security solutions for their communities," said Matthew Brady, vice president and general manager for Federal Signal. "Implementation of an ALPR network is a critical piece of an integrated community security system."
