Sudanese Political Forces commit to comprehensive national dialogue
WASHINGTON, Sept. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Thursday Sep. 4, 2014, delegations of Sudan's national dialogue committee (7+7) and oppositions signed two separate identical agreements "on the national dialogue and constitutional process" with the African Union High Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP) in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa. The agreement declared that "Comprehensive political settlement is the ideal option to resolve the Sudanese problem … "stopping war, reaching cessation of hostilities and addressing the humanitarian situation shall be an absolute priority in confidence building measures."
The agreement followed extensive consultations facilitated by the AU High-Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP) for Sudan and South Sudan. It paved the way for the success of the comprehensive inclusive national dialogue called for by H E President Bashier in Jan. 27, 2014, to redraft the constitution and address the fundamental issues of peace, economic development, political reform and Sudanese identity.
Once again, the Sudanese people have found a way to come together to reconcile their differences and make a big step in working for peace, stability and political reform. An achievement deserves to be commended and build on. The biggest challenge that faces our political leaders is to live up to their people's expectations and to seize the moment and the momentum to start the noble march for stable, peaceful and prosperous Sudan. Our country and our people are the only winners or losers in this quest.
Sudan commends the wise leadership of AUHIP for the tremendous efforts and contribution that brought this moment to bear, and for setting a great example on the meaningful pursuit for peace.
