Sudan provides support to South Sudanese refugees and has a clear religious freedom policy: Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, during his visit to Sudan

WASHINGTON, Aug. 2, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, concluded a historical visit to Sudan on Tuesday August 1^st, 2017. In a press conference published on SUNA, Archbishop said he had come out with good impressions from his current visit representing in Sudan's hospitality in hosting refugees and providing support and assistance to them and that the Government of Sudan is working to promote religious co-existence.

According to Xinhua, the Archbishop of Canterbury denied reports by Western groups claiming violations by the Sudanese government of religious freedoms in the country. He said Western reports on violations of religious freedoms in Sudan are "confused" and depend on specific cases that do not represent the normal situation in the country. Welby further said Sudan has a clear religious freedom policy, saying "the Sudanese government clearly has a policy of religious freedom."

The Archbishop of Canterbury wrote on his Facebook page said that We had wide-ranging and fruitful discussions with the President Omar Al-Bashir, as well as the Foreign Minister Prof. Ibrahim Ghandour.
