Successful First Year For Fort Worth Parking Pay Stations
More residents and visitors are choosing to pay for downtown parking time with credit and debit cards.
MOORESTOWN, N.J., March 12, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Convenience and better access was the goal when new parking pay stations were installed across the City of Fort Worth, TX, and a review on the one-year anniversary shows that the program has increased parking revenue while decreasing parking citation revenue.
Parking revenue increased 11% percent between financial year 2011 and 2012, while citation revenue fell by15 percent over the same period. A driving force behind that are the pay stations — now totaling 85 in operation, managing more than 600 on-street spaces in the heart of the city.
Pay stations have improved access to available on-street parking spaces, and more customers are taking advantage of the ability to use credit cards to pay for their time. Over this first year, 48 percent of parking time at pay stations has been purchased using credit cards — and that includes a rate of 54 percent over the past three months. Over the last three months, residents have purchased double the amount of time with credit cards than with coins at pay stations.
"Our desire is for our customers to have easy access to parking, which includes payment options that foster increased compliance with parking policies," Fort Worth parking manager Peter Elliott said. "The last thing we want to do is issue parking tickets. The new pay stations have helped us increase available parking and have made payment easier."
Reliability is a big bonus in the new program. Thanks to active monitoring — which quickly identifies problems and expedites reports of problems and timely repairs — the new stations are operating at full capacity at a 99.9 percent rate.
"We have been extremely pleased with the overall success of the new Pay and Display program," Elliott said. "The meters have worked very well for us, and the vendor, Parkeon, has been very supportive during this entire first year."
