SuccessEHS First EHR Vendor to Connect to South Carolina Health Information Exchange
BIRMINGHAM, Ala., April 3, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- SuccessEHS became the first ambulatory electronic health record (EHR) vendor to demonstrate a successful connection with South Carolina's Health Information Exchange (SCHIEx) during the recent 2012 South Carolina Health Information Exchange & Health Information Technology Summit. The demonstration showcased the capability of the SuccessEHS solution to send information to and receive data through the statewide health exchange.
SCHIEx is a technology and policy framework that enables participating health care providers to electronically exchange clinical information such as medical histories, medications, allergies, diagnoses and procedures for treatment, public health and quality reporting purposes. Health information exchanges like SCHIEx allow providers to make more informed clinical decisions and reduce duplication and errors. As a result, HIEs promote more coordinated health care for the patient, and generate time and cost savings due to the reduction of duplicative or unnecessary tests, medical visits, paperwork and treatment delays. Health information exchange is a cornerstone of numerous health reform initiatives, including the EHR Incentive Programs.
SuccessEHS is the first EHR vendor to successfully connect with SCHIEx, and the event marks an important milestone in the process known as "onboarding." The connection with SCHIEx allows SuccessEHS clients and their patients to benefit from advanced HIE. The successful onboarding is the result of collaboration between SuccessEHS and SCHIEx, as well as the South Carolina Primary Health Care Association (SCPHCA) and the Center for Information Technology Implementation Assistance for South Carolina (CITIA-SC), South Carolina's Regional Extension Center.
"The connectivity demonstration at the 2012 South Carolina Health Information Exchange & Health Information Technology Summit was groundbreaking," said Adriane Able, SCHIEx Executive Director. "Health care providers were able to experience first-hand how SCHIEx works, the successful integration of 'real time' standards-based exchange into EHR workflow, and the fundamental impact it will have on patient care and the health care system. The leadership of SuccessEHS and Little River Medical Center—a SuccessEHS client and SCHIEx Early Adopter—in this demonstration was truly outstanding. It speaks to the commitment SuccessEHS is making to health care providers and patients in South Carolina and to advancing the full potential of health information technology."
