STV To Help Bring Environmentally-Friendly Commuting Solutions To Maryland's Intra-City Commuters
BALTIMORE, Nov. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A recent contract awarded to STV, a leading transportation engineering firm, will usher in new, environmentally friendly solutions for intra-city commuters in Maryland.
As part of a task order contract with the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA), which operates commuter bus, light rail and commuter rail throughout Maryland, STV was selected to provide a wide range of bus procurement services for the purchase of 50 brand new hybrid-electric buses. As part of the contract, STV will assist the MTA through every step of the procurement process, from the design review phase, all the way to the moment these new buses are fully operational and in revenue service.
"We're excited to have this opportunity to play such a key role in the procurement process for these brand new hybrid buses," said Paul Kaufmann, STV's manager of bus systems engineering. "MTA's new diesel-hybrid-electric buses reflect a trend in the bus transportation industry to move towards cleaner and more fuel efficient sources for environmental and economical reasons, and to counter the unpredictable pricing of diesel fuel."
In addition to the MTA, STV is currently providing maintenance facility design and/or bus procurement services for bus agencies on both coasts of the United States that are implementing diesel-hybrid electric, compressed natural gas and hydrogen fuel cell buses into revenue service.
STV received its first bus-related task order contract with the MTA in 2006, when the firm was selected to develop technical specifications for the procurement and installation of a fluids management system for the agency's bus fleet. Since then, STV has supported additional MTA bus procurements, including in-plant quality assurance inspection work for 57 new diesel hybrid electric buses that just recently went into revenue service. STV's latest assignment marks the culmination of these efforts – providing the firm with more responsibility overseeing MTA's bus vehicles segment than ever before.
Since its earliest predecessor firm opened more than 100 years ago, STV has become a leader in providing planning, engineering, architectural and construction management services for transportation systems, buildings, infrastructure and energy services. Engineering News-Record ranked the firm 11th in its Top 50 Transportation firms survey and fifth in its Top 25 Mass Transit and Rail firms survey. STV is 100 percent employee-owned.
