DALLAS, March 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Student results on Istation's Indicators of Progress (ISIP™) assessments provide a strong indicator of potential scores on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) Reading tests, according to a predictability study released in 2014.
Conducted with the Garland Independent School District (Garland ISD) in Garland, Texas, the study collected data from more than 20,000 students and showed ISIP Reading measures to be highly predictive of STAAR scores. The study also found very strong correlations between both ISIP Reading and STARR Reading tests across multiple grade levels. The study compared overall reading scores from both ISIP Early Reading (grades pre-K through 3) and ISIP Advanced Reading (grades 4 through 8) to the students' STARR scores during the 2012-13 school year.
"The ability to use ISIP as a predictor of STAAR performance will be a great benefit to educators across the state," said Bob Morrison, Ed. D., Garland ISD superintendent. "Garland ISD is excited to have been a part of this project and looks forward to continued collaborations with Istation to benefit the students of Garland ISD and Texas."
The study also found improved reading ability through comparison of ISIP end of the year (EOY) scores and ISIP middle of the year (MOY) scores. Results showed students' overall scores and sub-skill scores across grades improved by the end of the year.
